About us
Serena initially trained as an illustrator, but has also worked in Local Government, and held various marketing positions in the electrical and manufacturing industries. Most recently Serena worked as a Lighting Design Engineer. The majority of her working life has been spent holding positions which require a creative eye.
Serena started to create jewellery as she couldn't find what she was looking for in the shops, too big, too small, too mass produced.
After attending jewellery evening classes and gaining basic skills, she started to buy tools to enable her to work from home and founded Chain Gang in 2001. She creates mainly sterling silver chains, but also makes earrings, pendants, rings and the occasional spoon !
Some of her inspiration comes from the material itself, the way it moves when its hammered and heated, she loves organic shapes and curves, so is naturally drawn to making chains. She takes inspiration from the world around her including her Dorset garden, where ivy scrambles over walls and gates, natural plants run wild and nature's taking over. The last few years the natural environment has become more important, and this has influenced her most recent works with leaf forms.
